Draft approved. A copy of the letter may be sent
to the Speaker also who will look after the completion
of the work left unfinished by us today. Members ex
pressed a desire to have photostat copies of the calli-
graphed version of the Constitution and some also
offered to pay for it. I had asked for estimates etc.
of this work to be kept ready so that it might be under
taken as soon as it was completed and the copies
distributed to Members on or without payment as may
be decided.

LETTER FROM THE SURVEYOR GENERAL OF INDIA TO THE
DEPUTY SECRETARY, CONSTITUENT ASSEMBLY SECRE
TARIAT, DATED THE 23RD JANUARY, 1950.
Two proofs in colours together with the original
specimen of calligraphed page of the Constitution are
sent herewith. In the case of one proof the original
has been reduced by half and in the case of the other
the original has been reduced by l/3rd.
2. We regret very much that the proofs in one colour
(black) only have not arrived from Dehra Dun. It
is expected that these proofs will be received tomorrow
and the same will be sent on to you immediately they
are received.
3. We have estimated that the calligraphed pages will
number about 280 and we have also taken it for
granted that you will want printing done on one side
of the paper only. Bearing the above faqts in mind, the
