APPENDIX XII
LETTER FROM SHRI NANDALAL BOSE TO THE HONOURABLE
THE SPEAKER, DATED THE 19TH .FEBRUARY, 1950.
Many thanks for your letter dated 9th February.
1950, enquiring about the amount of honorarium to
be paid to the artists who co-operated with me in
dec&rating the calligraphed pages of the Constitution
of India.
■ I undertook the work at the request of our Honour
able President and had no idea of the amount of
honorarium, since I was not accustomed to such under
takings. Of course it is needless to say that our
artists did the work out of their artistic interest and
patriotical zeal.
So far as. the honorarium is concerned, I should
think that the artists may be paid according to the
following rates:—
Rs
1. Cover page . . . . . . . 'tOO
2. Promnblc -■• ■!<)<>
:t. First paj«e-begi!iuing of the first piirt ... 200
4. Kaoh omiHWntect illumination ... 1(H)
5. Kneh intermediate p<ige with plain decorative -10
When completed the whole decoration work might
cost about Rs. 18.000 to Rs. 20,000 according to the
above rate,
The expenditure incurred on account of the.
materials used in connexion with the illumination
has. of course, to be treated under a separate head,
